I Achieved A Big Goal This Year…Now What?

No one told me the downside of achieving big goals. I thought I was alone.

Upon selection for my final military promotion, the top enlisted rank, I was excited. The feeling lasted exactly 48 hours.

Now what?

That’s what they don’t tell you…the lost-what’s next feeling…that feeling of total uncertainty.

Keep driving toward big goals and you’ll feel it too.

Here’s what I’ve learned.

First, it’s normal and to be expected.

Second, the momentum you feel from achieving your goal can be used to make the next one seem attainable, so don’t waste it by taking a 2 year goal “vacation”.

Third, the path will become clearer the closer you become. The fog will lift and the sun will come out. Keep moving forward, take this opportunity to align your values with your path, and trust your instincts.

So what do we do? Anything. Something. So long as we just don’t sit there…If we wait until we’ve satisfied all the uncertainties, it may be too late.” – Lee Iacocca
