Rejection and Filaments

Received a letter last week with a rejection for a speaking proposal.

It’s not the first.

I’ve been fired (once), not selected for a job (multiple times), demoted, told to wait my turn, and experienced many other similar personal and professional rejection/failures.

Each is like a filament in a light bulb.

Frank L. Dyer, a colleague of Thomas Edison, wrote that Edison tried 1,600 materials for filaments before finding a suitable element. Beard hair, coconut fibers, and fishing line were among the (failed) attempts.

Edison persisted. He took a note (50 pages on filaments alone) and tried another filament.

It’s simply time for another filament.
